Dick DeVos
Grand Action co-chair
Dick DeVos is co-chair of Grand Action 2.0, a nonprofit economic development organization committed to transformational projects that contribute to the vitality of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The group is guided by a desire to advance projects that benefit people from all generations and walks of life.
Dick previously served as a co-chair of the group’s predecessor, Grand Action, from 1993 until 2018, which led decades of successful work inspired by the community’s 1991 Grand Vision plan. Grand Action and Grand Action 2.0 are key contributors to the public / private partnership model that has set Grand Rapids apart from cities across the nation and helped put the community on numerous lists as a top place to live, work and raise a family.
Partly through his work with Grand Action, Dick has spearheaded various Grand Rapids-area downtown revitalization and regional improvement projects, including a downtown arena, convention center, children’s hospital, medical school, downtown market, and numerous other local initiatives.
Dick’s placemaking work also extends to the Michigan lakeshore through his work with Project Clarity, a community-wide partnership committed to improving the health and clarity of Lake Macatawa and the Macatawa Watershed in Holland, Michigan.
He has spent his business career working in a variety of executive positions at Amway, the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Orlando Magic, and The Windquest Group, where he currently serves as chairman of the privately held enterprise and investment firm.
Dick and his wife, Betsy, and their children also lead the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation, which launched in 1989 as a vehicle for their personal charitable giving. Their giving is centered in support for their West Michigan community, cultivating leadership and advancing educational freedom.
